Joe Profita's Cyanotype prints are exquisite, hand-crafted contact prints made from original film negatives. The image size on the print is therefore the same same size as the image on the negative. A solution of iron salts is prepared, then spread on cotton rag or rice paper. When dry, the coating is sensitive to light. The negative is placed on top of the sensitized coating and exposed to ultraviolet light for 1 to 15 minutes. The developed print is then bleached with sodium carbonate and toned with tannic acid.
