Print Appearance:
Each of Joe Profita's alternative process photographic prints is a unique, one-of-a kind print.
Joe creates his own photo-sensitive emulsions and then hand-paints them onto carefully-selected sheets of fine art paper stock.
The photographic negative is then contact-printed onto the prepared paper in the darkroom resulting in the finished print.
Palladium Prints can be expected to look much like the images presented here but the warmth can vary somewhat.
Cyanotypes are printed on various types of paper. Those printed on rice paper in particular may have many artifacts.
This means that each print will have its own unique character based on the content and fiber of the individual sheet of paper.
This is part of the charm of these images. The overall appearance is consistent but the artifacts will vary from print to print.
Mordancage and Digital Pigment Prints are consistent, one to the next.
Matting:
All of Joe Profita's prints are matted on pearl white conservation board.
Joe attaches the print to 2 ply board using clear corners, with an over mat of beveled 4 ply board.
The prints are signed by the artist in pencil in the lower right hand corner outside the image area.
Once over-matted, the emulsion bleed and signature will not show.
